TEXT

For A Child’s Grove (Coxcomb, Cloud Tree, Rabbit’s Hole, Pollard Trunk) I have enlarged four children’s line drawings of trees into hovering steel outlines springing up from the lawn.

The idealized trees are rendered out of natural scale, roughly a third larger than us but not as large as mature specimens.  They provide a purposefully naïve window to frame the park setting and to contemplate the distance between childhood and adulthood, between reified and real.  Three of the trees form a visual family while one, Pollard Trunk, is the moody outlier.  A sense of the dramatic arises from the tension between those belonging and the one being apart and from our own relation to the highly reflective yet largely absented stainless steel tree figures.
